Ticket feature: STOMP performing in Lubbock

Percussive dance troupe STOMP performs Feb. 24 and 25 at Lubbock's City Bank Auditorium.

Sections of the show have been updated and restructured with the addition of two full-scale routines using props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans. USA Today said, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.”

The troupe incorporates everyday objects such as trash can lids, pot and pans and their feet into choreographed routines to produce music.

STOMP was created in 1991 in Brighton, U.K., by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, and the show previewed at London’s Bloombury Theatre. “Let’s Make Music” was a collaboration between STOMP and Jim Henson’s Muppet’s for Sesame Street, released on TV and video in North America in 2000. Also during 2000 the troupe began a two-year run at the Marines Memorial Theatre in San Francisco.

In 2002, STOMP went to the big screen in an awarding-winning IMAX film. In 2006 they had their 5,000th performance since its creation. In 2008, Entertainment Weekly included STOMP in its list of “New Classics: The 50 Best Plays and Musicals from 1983 to 2008.”
