The city of Clovis is holding a ribbon cutting 12:30 p.m. Monday at its new dog park at Hillcrest Park.

The park is one of the first renovations of what was the Clovis Municipal Golf Course. The park, measuring 225 feet by 240 feet, encompasses parts of the No. 2 green and the No. 3 tee box.

There is a small dog park (dogs 30 pounds or less) that measures 115 feet by 125 feet. The remaining space is an “L” shape for bigger dogs (30 pounds or more)

The park comes at a cost of $50,000, paid through last June’s refinancing of a parks and recreation bond. Parks and Recreation Director Bill Bizzell said most of the cost was incurred building the kiosk, walkway and 5-foot fencing.

The park is by no means completed. The small dog park has a large bare patch. Also, there will be no water available at the park until a pipeline is routed from the splash park, still under construction, to the south wall of the park, which is bordered by both the large and small dog parks.

Both of those renovations will happen when the weather allows, Bizzell said.
