Police blotter — Jan. 30

Samplings of recent calls to Portales law enforcement, according to police records:

Tuesday

• An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of North Avenue N about 5:45 p.m. for a report of a stolen purse.

A 31-year old woman told the officer she noticed her purse was missing from her truck.

She said she left the truck unlocked while getting ready for the day.

The purse contained $600 in cash, a Wal-Mart discount card, a credit card and Social Security cards for her and her five children.

The case is inactive due to lack of evidence.

Thursday

• About 7:10 a.m., an officer took a report of a burglary at a business in the 600 block of East Lime Street.

A 24-year-old man told the officer that when he came to work, the shop truck was outside and loaded with various tools and the building door was open. The officer also found the tail lights were disconnected and the head lights were lying on the passenger seat with the light bulbs removed. The intruder had also taken apart some of the dash board.

The officer observed no forced entry to the shop. His attempt to take prints revealed the intruder was wearing cotton gloves.

• An officer was sent to the 700 block of South Avenue A about 4:50 p.m. for a report of attempted kidnapping.

A 33-year-old woman said her 8-year-old son told her he was taking out the trash when a man in a red car assaulted him and tried without success to get him into the vehicle.

No further information was available.

Friday

• About 10:45 p.m., an officer responded to a burglary report in the 300 block of West 15th Street.

A 75-year-old woman told the officer she found someone had entered her garage and gone through boxes and moved things around.

The woman said the garage was in order the night before. She said the dead bolt on the door wasn’t locked and the door knob lock could be defeated by pushing hard on the door.

The officer noted the suspect had apparently removed pickets from the fence to enter her property. The intruder had also entered a storage shed in the backyard, but it appeared no property was missing from there.

The woman noticed a drill driver and set of bits was missing from the garage, but said she would need time to conduct an inventory.

The officer photographed shoe prints at the scene and asked the woman to give him the inventory of stolen items when she completed it.
