PORTALES, N.M. — Junior place kicker Taylor Cannon (Los Lunas, N.M./Los Lunas HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University football team has been selected Honorable Mention Don Hansen Football Gazette All-American, for his outstanding performance during the 2010 season. The award marks the third All-American Honor for the Greyhounds this season and the seventh in the past two seasons.
The award caps a tremendous year for Cannon, which saw him earn Second Team Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 4, two Fred Mitchell Outstanding Placekicker Awards (September and October), First Team All-Lone Star Conference North Division (place kicker) and Second Team All-Lone Star Conference North Division (punter).
Cannon finished 40th in the nation and third in the Lone Star Conference with 7.64 points per game. He also finished third in the LSC with a 40.6-yard average on his 11 punts, with a long kick of 62 yards in a win at Tarleton State. Cannon reached double digits in scoring three times, with 14-point performances against Texas A&M-Commerce and Northeastern State.
For his career, Cannon has scored 156 points, connecting on 24 field goals and 84 point-after-touchdown attempts. He also boasts a 40-yard average on punts and a 58.1-yard average on kickoffs.
