Thursday morning briefing: Books galore and dogs abound

Good morning. It’s the Freedom New Mexico Thursday briefing.

Book stop

The state Rural Bookmobile is scheduled to stop in Roosevelt County

Feb. 3.

The schedule is:

• Pep Post Office, 9-10 a.m.

• Causey Post Office, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

• Elida City Hall, 1-2 p.m.

The bookmobile has books for loan with no late or registration fees.

Barking good time

The third annual American Kennel Club-sanctioned all breed and mixed breed three-day dog agility trial is in town next weekend.

The contests are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, starting Feb. 4 at the Curry County Events Center.

It’s free and open to the public.

On this day in 1888, the National Geographic Society is founded in Washington, D.C., for "the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge."

The 33 men who originally met and formed the National Geographic Society were a diverse group of geographers, explorers, teachers, lawyers, cartographers, military officers and financiers.
