Sing it out

A Gospel Songfest is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Portales Memorial Building, at Abilene and Seventh streets.

Admission is free. Performers include soloists, duets and groups.

The event is sponsored Calvary Tabernacle UPC in Clovis.

Book signing

Mystery author and 1968 Clovis High School grad Bob Doerr is in town Saturday to autograph copies of his latest thriller, “Loose Ends Kill.”

The event is from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hastings in Clovis.

Cooking tips

When you salt meat before cooking a bit of the juices does leak out. But if you can let it sit for about 20 minutes the meat will reabsorb the juice, and after 2 hours it should be almost completely reabsorbed.
