Police blotter —

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Around 3 p.m. Jan. 7 an officer responded to the area of 21st Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for a crash report.

A woman said she was driving north on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and her vehicle started pulling to the right.

She said she corrected her steering then noticed her wheel and tire rolling past her vehicle on the road.

When she stopped her vehicle, she said she watched the wheel roll into a parking lot, striking a parked vehicle.

The officer noted her wheel had broken off at the hub.

About 9 p.m. Jan. 7 an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for a report of burglary.

A woman said she arrived and found her door pried open and three storage bins and several food items taken from her residence at some point in the hour prior.

She said she had recently purchased a $300 meat pack and the suspect had taken the meat and used one of the storage bins to carry it out.

The officer spoke to two neighbors, however they said they did not have any information related to the incident.

Around 3 a.m. Jan 9 an officer on patrol in the area of Mitchell and Seventh streets heard a car horn honking and began looking for the source.

He saw a van driving from the area and followed it to the parking lot of the state police office at Seventh and Thornton streets.

A woman in the van with two small children was bleeding from lacerations on her hand and said her brother cut her.

She said she was at her brother’s home and they began arguing about the way a guest at his house was behaving.

She said he told her to leave so she and her children got in her vehicle, but he followed and continued arguing with her, reaching through her window and stabbing her steering wheel.

She said she grabbed his hands and he cut her before she grabbed the knife and started driving away.

She said she threw the knife out the window as she left.

Officers found the man but he refused to speak to them and others at the residence said they did not see what happened.

Officers found the knife in the front yard.

The man was arrested for aggravated battery.

About 10 a.m. Jan. 9 an officer responded to the city golf course in the 1200 block of Norris Street for a report of a found child.

An employee said some golfers notified him there was a small child playing on the golf course and directed him to the child.

The man said he took the girl inside the office and she told him she was 4 years old.

The officer noted the child was wearing her pajamas and looked clean other than some grass burrs that were stuck to her clothes.

The girl told the officer her name and pointed toward Seventh Street when he asked where she lived.

She was able to point out her house when the officer drove her by it and he made contact with her mother.

The woman said she didn’t feel well when she woke and went back to bed, securing the door with an elastic cord because the latch didn’t work.

The officer noted the cord was as she said but the girl must have managed to squeeze through the door, cross the road and crawl under the fence to the golf course.

He determined their did not appear to be any intentional neglect and advised the mother to have the landlord fix the door and made a referral to child services so they could check back and make sure the door had been addressed.
