Friday morning briefing: Scholarships, a local cotton conference and losing a crown

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Friday briefing.

Cancer scholarship

Young cancer survivors have until Feb. 25 to apply for the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Survivor College Scholarship.

The scholarship awards up to $10,000 offered in increments of $2,500 per academic year.

Applicants must have been diagnosed with cancer before age 21 and must apply before age 25.

Cotton conference

The Llano Estacado Cotton Conference starts at 8:30 a.m. today and continues until 3:30 p.m. at the Bailey County Coliseum in Muleshoe.

Progams offered are focusing on cotton production and marketing for Texas and eastern New Mexico.

Registration is $15 at the door and more information is available at 272-4583.

However, the news wasn't all rosy for the Japanese auto giant, which later in 2009 posted its first-ever loss as a public company.
