Transparency needed

The letter came to me in December. The Board of Curry County Commissioners has appointed you to serve on the detention center and courthouse committees.

The purpose of these committees is to assist the county commission in solving the infrastructure and financial needs of the detention center and courthouse.

The letter did not say that we were to undertake this project behind closed doors and that none of our discussions and conclusions could be reported to the public. The letter did not state that the public was not to know the options or the pros and cons of each of those options. Only the county commissioners get to know this.

Has the county commission ever heard of transparency? I chose not to serve or make decisions behind closed doors.
