Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Friday briefing.

The state Rural Bookmobile is scheduled to stop in Roosevelt County on Jan. 13.

The schedule is:

• Pep Post Office, 9-10 a.m.

• Causey Post Office, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

• Elida City Hall, 1-2 p.m.

The bookmobile offers books for loan with no late or registration fees.

Top appointment

Clovis Livestock Auction president Charlie Rogers has been named to the Secretary of Agriculture’s Advisory Committee on Animal Health.

He was appointed earlier this month. Rogers will serve a two year term.

Today in history

On this day in 1972, Roberto Clemente, future Hall of Fame baseball player, died along with four others when the cargo plane in which he is traveling crashed off the coast of Puerto Rico.

Clemente was on his way to deliver relief supplies to Nicaragua following a devastating earthquake there a week earlier.
