Debbie Caffrey of Debbie’s Creative Moments will show step-by-step how to test for accurate seam allowances and correct alignment of triangles in quilting projects. She lives in Albuquerque.
Vivian Lavinskas will show how to add surface texture and flair to garments and accessories with snail or box-pleated ruching. This is a fun project where your imagination offers many possibilities for creativity. She’s with Singer Sewing Co. in Lavergne, Tenn.
If you like brownies, you’ll love the variations Nancy Siler has to show. She’ll make brownie pops, elegant brownies and even cute and easy brownie rounds all using the same brownie recipe. Siler is with Wilton Brands in Woodridge, Ill.
Information on paper embossing, creating wearable art and preparing apple recipes will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Cozetta Moore will show how to create one-of-a-kind cards through paper embossing. The supplies are minimal, and lots of imagination is all that is required. She’s with The Print Shop in Portales.
Sewing instructor Kate Mathews will show sample folk-wear garments and explain how you can apply your favorite creative techniques to design wearable art with a vintage or ethnic flair. She is with Lark Books in Asheville, N.C.
Janel Franklin, cookbook author, will show a variety of different apples, explain which one is best in which recipe and then prepare an old-fashioned family-style apple pie — guaranteed to please! Her company is Jan-Su Publications, and she lives in Tahoka, Texas.
Crunchy all-American apple pie
• 6 tart apples
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup raisins (optional), soaked in 1/4 cup hot water
• Unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup flour
• 1/2 cup butter, softened
Pare, core and slice apples very thin. Combine apples with sugar, cinnamon, apple pie spice, salt and raisins. Pour mixture into unbaked pastry shell. Mix together brown sugar, sugar and flour. Cut butter into mixture until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake 45 to 50 minutes at 357 degrees F. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
