Food at the speed of life: Ingredients give sandwich unique taste

If you’re looking for a change from the ol’ ham and cheese, I have a sandwich with a unique flavor for you.

A globe-trotting free spirit of a guy introduced me to a couple of sandwich ideas that I combined for the following:

“The Hawke”

• 1/2 to 1/4 of an avocado, sliced

• 1/2 roma tomato, sliced

• 1 tablespoon black olives, sliced

• About 3 slices muenster cheese

• 2 slices whole-wheat bread

• Olive oil

Layer the avocado, tomato, olives and cheese between the bread slices. Pour just enough oil olive in a small skillet to wet the surface of one slice of bread. Grill, covered, until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown. Lift the sandwich, and add more olive oil, just enough to wet the surface of the second slice of bread. Flip the sandwich. (The fillings like to escape. Don’t burn yourself stuffing them back in the sandwich.) Again, grill, covered, until the bottom bread slice is golden brown. The fillings should be warm and the cheese melted. You’re ready to eat.

You can trim the fat by using thin slices of avocado and cheese, but I don’t recommend dispensing with the olive oil because it adds flavor.
