My turn: Christmas eases stress of moving

Chaos! That’s how I describe moving during Christmas time.

For the second time in eight years, I’m moving during Advent, the season that’s supposed to be a period of joyful expectation as we wait upon baby Jesus.

So what do I have? “Joyful chaos!”

It’s like the saying, “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade!”

The stockings are still not hung, but my Christmas tree is up. Most of my belongings are still stacked in boxes piled high to the ceiling, but my nativity sets are out. That’s what I call “joyful chaos.”

Just last week I was sad because I was running behind schedule. Normally, I have all of my Christmas decorations up and ready to plug in the day after Thanksgiving. I’ve still got outside lights to set up and Christmas cards to mail. I’m really running behind this year. Despite the insanity of this glorious season – I’ll call it “glorious insanity” – I’m comforted in thinking about the nativity of Jesus: Born in a stable, laid in a manger, an impromptu baby shower given by three kings he did not even know.

What do you give the King of all Kings: Gold, frankincense and myrrh? And what did shepherds give him? They didn’t come empty-handed. They brought praises and adoration.
