Officer foils burglary

A Clovis police officer foiled a burglary Thursday morning while on patrol.

Around 10 a.m., Detective Charlie Aguirre was in the 200 block of Ninth Street when he noticed a car parked in the alley, said Capt. Patrick Whitney.

Whitney said Aguirre decided to make sure everything was all right and came upon two women putting items in the car.

He discovered they had broken a window to enter the residence and were carrying the resident’s possessions through the back door and to the car in the alley.

The women, who had already removed a television and video game system from the residence, told the officer it was their friend’s residence but when he doubted their story, they ran, Whitney said.

Aguirre was able to catch one of the women, Whitney said, and other officers who came to assist captured the second woman a couple blocks away.

Whitney said the pair was arrested on burglary charges and the property was returned to the resident of the apartment.

The women’s identities and other details of the case were not available, pending completion of a report on the incident, Whitney said.
