Letters to the editor: Let’s vote to take liars out of office

Let’s vote to take liars out of office

With wonderful journalism, MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” has documented for us over several months the stunning hypocrisy of many of our national politicians.

The essence of this may be old news: “They all lie.”

Of course they don’t all lie. But the most egregious offenders who do, particularly this election cycle, are the right-wing Republicans desperate to get or keep power.

From Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, John McCain, Sarah Palin, the list seems endless: They’ve been caught lying through their teeth to the American people supposedly in charge of their respective political fates.

This is not political opinion. It is fact.

It is sad for our democracy that they do it.

It is sick that they keep doing it.

And it is particularly pathetic that so many otherwise honorable and honest Republican and independent voters continue to suspend disbelief and indicate, via many national polls, that they’re going to vote for the liars anyway, against their own interests.

Some of these guilty politicians are just plain stupid.

But this time around, I think most of them are gambling that we’ll be political dupes just enough for one more election, one more time, to put enough of them back in office to thwart the president’s halting progressive agenda.

I don’t want the fate of our country in the hands of dishonest gamblers, who in the long run make the rest of us lose.
