My turn: Game and Fish offers hunting tips
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is urging hunters across the state to enjoy their time being outdoors with family and friends this hunting season. NMDGF is passing along tips for hunters:
• Non-hunters should remember they share the outdoors with hunters carrying loaded weapons and they should wear bright-colored clothing at all times.
• Hunters should always be certain of their target and everything behind it before firing a shot. Never shoot toward a house or road if a target is around.
• Always double check equipment before using.
Hunting season for doves, blue grouse, band-tailed pigeons and squirrels opens Sept. 1 in the northern areas of the state. Archery seasons for deer, bear and elk also open Sept. 1.
Pronghorn antelope season runs late August through mid-September. Information: http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us.
Remember, we want to see your trophy pictures or junior’s first deer so send in your photos.
Be safe and enjoy hunting.
