Charges to be presented to grand jury in Muleshoe homicide case

Charges in an Aug. 13 Muleshoe homicide will be presented to a grand jury, Police Chief Brian Frieda said Thursday.

Frieda said police have a “particular person of interest” in the case and are continuing to conduct interviews and investigate the incident.

“We kind of have an idea who this is,” he said. “They’re being cooperative and they’re not a threat to the community.”

Frieda said there have been no charges filed in connection with the case and he does not have a timeline for when a grand jury might hear the case.

Police responding to a report of an assault found 42-year-old Benny Martinez Sr. inside a residence at 1802 W. American Blvd. in Muleshoe.

Autopsy results indicated Martinez was stabbed multiple times, Frieda said.
