Dora shooting victim still critical

A man shot in the head during an altercation in Dora on Wednesday night remains in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital, according to authorities.

Roosevelt County Sheriff Darren Hooker declined Friday to release any names relating to the incident, citing safety issues.

Deputies were called to 506 Avenue D about 10:30 p.m. for a report of a male shot in a domestic dispute.

In a press release issued Thursday, sheriff officials said an altercation took place just before the shooting. Two men were fighting, one with an undisclosed weapon. The wife of one of the men came out of the house with a gun and tried to break up the fight.

When the man with the weapon turned “as to attack” the wife, the husband took the gun from her and fired one shot in the attacker’s head, officials said.

Three people were detained for questioning following the incident, Hooker said previously.
