Recent cases in the Portales Magistrate Court:

July 20

Jerrod Long, DOB 1988, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia; sentenced to 364 days in jail with 364 suspended; one year supervised probation; and $198 in fines. Possession of marijuana charge is dismissed per plea agreement.

July 21

Pedro Villalobos, DOB 1988, pleaded guilty to resisting, evading, and obstructing an officer and driving on suspended/revoked driver license. Sentenced to 364 days in jail, to run concurrent with district court charges; fined $434. Charge of defective equipment dismissed per verbal plea agreement.

Ronald Chavez, DOB 1971, pleaded guilty to battery, amended from battery on a household member per written plea agreement; sentenced to 182 days in jail deferred in lieu of 182 days supervised probation; must complete ASPEN program within 90 days, and pay $73 in fines and fees.

Ronald Chavez, DOB 1971, pleaded guilty to DWI (first offense); sentenced to 90 days in jail with 90 days suspended; one year supervised probation; must attend ASPEN class within 90 days, DWI school within 60 days, and drug/alchohol screening within 30 days, 48 hours community service within 90 days; must install ignition interlock in any vehicle defendant drives for one year, and pay $221 in fines and costs.

July 22

Martin Perez, DOB unknown, found guilty of DWI (first offense) careless driving, and driver to be licensed; sentenced to 90 days in jail, $663 in fines, one year supervised probation; must complete DWI school within 60 days of release, alcohol screening within 90 days of release; 24 hours community service within 90 days of release; and have an ignition interlock installed on any and all vehicles for one year.

July 23

Jermain Griffin, DOB 1985, pleaded guilty to battery; sentenced to 182 days in jail, with 155 days suspended and credit for pre-sentence time served; 155 days supervised probation; must attend ASPEN program within 90 days and pay $173 in fines and costs.

Doyle Irby, DOB 1967, pleaded no contest and found guilty of resisting, evading and obstructing an officer; sentenced to 364 days in jail with 364 suspended, one year supervised probation; must attend ASPEN program within 90 days, and pay $73 in fines and fees, to be paid within 30 days of release from custody.

Clint Morrison, DOB 1991, pleaded guilty to minor in possession of alcohol; sentenced to one year supervised probation; must attend ASPEN program within 90 days, 60 hours community service in a program related to reducing DWI, and pay $30 monthly probation cost. Fined $1,573 with $500 suspended, leaving $573.

July 27

Shana Donati, DOB 1988, pleaded no contest and found guilty of DWI (first offense) and sentenced to 90 days in jail with 90 days suspended with one year supervised probation; must attend ASPEN program within 90 days, DWI school within 60 days, alcohol screening within 30 days, and 48 hours community service within 90 days; and install an ignition interlock on any vehicle driven by defendant for one year, and pay $221 in fines and costs.
