Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Conservation program signup open

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a general signup for its Conservation Reserve Program that will run through Aug. 27.

Due to a percentage cap on land under CRP contracts, new acres cannot be enrolled in Curry, Quay and Roosevelt counties.

The voluntary program allows farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers to use environmentally sensitive land and plan long-term, resource-conserving covers. In exchange, they receive rental payments, cost sharing and technical assistance.

New Mexico has more than 500,000 acres enrolled in CRP.
