Police blotter — Aug. 1

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Around 9 a.m. July 14 an officer responded to an undisclosed residence to be there while a social worker took a child into custody.

The worker told the officer a judge had issued an order three days prior, giving the state custody of a male child.

She said the boy’s father was eluding her but had sent her a text message that he just wanted to spend the weekend with his son and would then turn him over to authorities.

She said she gave the man the weekend but then couldn’t locate him.

The officer noted when they knocked on the door of the residence the curtains moved.

The officer noted intent to seek a warrant for the father for unlawfully interfering with custody.

Around 8 a.m. July 16 an officer responded to an undisclosed residence for a report of theft.

A male reported that sometime the night before, someone stole a unicycle from his porch.

The officer took a description of the unicycle and spoke to neighbors but was unable to obtain suspect information.

Around 8 a.m. July 17 an officer was dispatched to the 3000 block of Autumnwood Drive for a report of a man with a weapon.

While on his way to the residence, the officer saw a man fitting the description he’d been given crossing Prince Street and stopped to talk with him.

The man, who the officer noted appeared angry, admitted he had a knife in his pocket.

The officer found two knives, each more than 7 inches long, in the man’s pants pockets.

The man said he was going to another male’s house to talk to him because he was angry and if he had to, he was going to stab him.

The officer talked to the residents of the home where the call originated and they said the man came to the door with a knife and tried to open the door, then walked around in the yard swinging the knife in the air.

The man was arrested for aggravated assault, carrying a deadly weapon and attempted burglary.

About noon July 18 an officer responded to the 1000 block of Prince street for a complaint of a homeless man offering alcohol to minors.

When the officer arrived he approached a man sitting on an old couch in the back yard and noted he was smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette and detected the odor of marijuana.

The officer also noted the man looked surprised when he saw the officer.

The man told him he did not have a permit for medical marijuana use but that he had “hepatitis A, B, C, and D”.

The man was arrested for possession of marijuana.
