Did you know God has angels watching over you?
I love to read in Psalm 91:11 that: “He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” (NKJV)
I shall never forget an experience even though I was small. During the Depression, a beautiful lady knocked on my Granny’s door and asked to spend the night as she had no place to stay. I was about 4 and was overwhelmed at such a lady. Her clothes and perfume were wonderful.
Granny put the lady in the best room with the best linens. The next day the lady was gone, and the bed had not been touched.
“An angel had a visit with us,” Granny said.
At 91, Granny went to heaven. I was by her bed, and the same aroma of perfume brought me back to my childhood. Granny’s angel had come one more time. As the years went by, I came to believe the angel was sent to bless Granny because of the many hungry people she feed during the Depression.
At 16, I had to have surgery to remove adenoids in my sinuses. Under the anesthesia, I saw two angels working over me. They talked to each other. One said, “We’ve got to send her back. Her work isn’t finished.” The other one said, “Well, hurry up — she’s about to die.”
Our middle son at 19 had an experience that he will never forget. He was coming home in his pickup. Suddenly a cow was in his lane. At his speed, he couldn’t stop. Immediately a strong arm took over the wheel and whizzed around the cow. Lance and I both believe that real strong arm belonged to an angel.
We had a tire blow out recently on the air base road. A man and his teenage son stopped immediately. The man worked in the heat and humidity for quite a while taking off the flat tire and replacing the spare.
We tried to pay him, but he said, “No. My mother had a flat, and someone helped her. So I’m paying a good thing back.” They looked like people to me, but I think they were angels.
The Bible has many references about angels. Angels watch over children (Matthew 8:11). They announced that Sarah would have a child (Genesis 18:10). They shut the lions’ mouths in Daniel 6:22. They announced Zacharias would have a son (Luke 1:11-19). They warned Joseph to flee to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15). They announced Mary would have a son (Luke 1:26-37). They announced the second coming of Jesus (Acts 1:10-11). An angel rolled away the stone of Jesus’ tomb (Matthew 28:2-4). Angels rejoice over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10). Angels are not to be worshiped by man (Revelation 22:8-9). Angels are ministering spirits sent forth to do service for the sake of them that inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14).
There are so many things about angels, and I love them all. However, the one that really stands out for me is in Luke 16:22. Angels carry us home when we fall asleep in Jesus.
As we journey through this life, God’s children can be assured of their destiny. Remember our Heavenly Father sends angels to watch over you. He says in his Word: “I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we may boldly say, ‘The LORD is my helper, I will not fear. What can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:5-6 )
