Clovis Community College’s theater department will be performing the Tony Award and Pulitzer prize-winning musical “Rent” next week.

The show will be performed 7 p.m. nightly July 28 through July 31 with a 2 p.m. matinee Aug. 1 at CCC’s Town Hall.

The musical is loosely on Puccini’s opera “La Boheme” and is a modern story that follows the lives of a group of young artists and musicians living in New York City’s East Village. Over the course of a year, they struggle with relationships, losses, loves, creativity and health issues.

The musical opened on Broadway in 1996 and went on to win a Tony Award for Best Musical.

The cast is a mix of Clovis, Portales and Cannon Air Force Base talent, including students from Eastern New Mexico University and the University of New Mexico.

This musical contains adult subjects, themes and language.

Tickets which are $10, are available at CCC’s cashier window or at the door pending availability.
