Peterson fifth in 15-16 Sun Country Junior PGA event

ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis High’s Ethan Peterson shot a second-round 78 Tuesday to finish fifth at 9-over 155 in the boys 15-16 division of the 2010 Sun Country Junior PGA Championship at Four Hills Country Club.
Portales’ Paige Hartman, meantime, finished eighth in the girls 15-16 division, shooting a 96 on Tuesday for a 36-hole score of 191.
The overall top boy and top girl from three age divisions — 17-18, 15-16 and 13-14 — qualify for the 35th Junior PGA Championship, scheduled for Aug. 2-5 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Both Sun Country representatives came from the 17-18 division — Parker Ashton of Santa Fe for the boys, and Laura Barron of El Paso for the girls. Ashton shot 69-73 — 142, 2 under par, to edge Adrian Conteras of El Paso by one shot, while Barron posted a four-stroke margin over 15-16 participant Taylor Jaramillo of Belen.
