Portales Workforce Connections office closed temporarily

The New Mexico Workforce Connections One-Stop office in Portales is temporarily closed because of a transition in staffing, but all services are available at the Clovis office.

Matt Barela, manager at the Clovis office, said Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso began a contract to staff the office July 1, and the office closed that day until the university could find a qualified employee.

ENMU-Ruidoso’s John Hemphill, One-Stop operator of New Mexico Workforce Connections, said he anticipates having a staff member in the Portales office after one more week.

The university has received applications for the job, which involves working with adults who need help with job searching, education or training, he said.

Hemphill said ENMU-Ruidoso is in charge of providing employees for that position at the offices in the 12 eastern New Mexico counties.
