Board names Terry Myers superintendent

The Clovis Municipal Schools board of education named Terry Myers as the new superintendent Wednesday.

The board announced their selection after a three-hour special session. Myers, superintendent for the Mount Pleasant (Texas) Independent School District, was offered a three-year contract with a base salary of $151,000.

Wichita Falls (Texas) Independent School District Assistant Superintendent Tim Powers was the other finalist to replace Rhonda Seidenwurm, who announced in January that she would leave at the end of the school year after five years with the district.

Myers, 54, has been superintendent in Mount Pleasant for five years and has held the position in four other districts in Texas. He has also served as a teacher, coach and principal.

He is set to start Aug. 1 after he comes to a resignation agreement with Mount Pleasant ISD.

“It is so great to be a Clovis Wildcat,” Myers said. “The things Clovis needs in a superintendent, I can provide, and the things I need as a superintendent, Clovis can provide.”

Board President Mark Lansford said Myers’ enthusiasm and dedication to student success were some of the qualities he liked.

“He is driven to see that each student achieves the best they can be,” Lansford said. “He has a proven track record of success ... I look forward to working with him for many years to come.”

Seidenwurm earned an annual salary of $138,700 when her contract was last renewed in 2008.

Myers was in the second group of candidates and finalists interviewed by the board. The board began the process of finding a new superintendent at the end of January, but the search came up dry in March, even after the board had named finalists.
