Incarnate Word joins Lone Star Conference

RICHARDSON, Texas — Incarnate Word has joined the Lone Star Conference in time for the San Antonio university’s second football season.

The 129-year-old liberal arts school that was a women’s college until 1970 officially joined the Division II league Thursday.

The 2010 grid season opener for the Cardinals will be Aug. 28 at home against Langston. The first conference game is Sept. 11 at Southeastern Oklahoma.

Incarnate Word sponsors 19 sports, including men’s and women’s basketball and soccer, softball and volleyball.

UIW is the 28th member in the LSC’s 79-year history and the second San Antonio school to be in the league. Trinity University was a member in 1931-34 and 1946-49.
