July 21, 1910: Sidewalks were appearing all around Portales. “The northwest side and southwest side of the square have complete sidewalks and the work on other sides are progressing,” the Roosevelt County Herald reported. “Bascom Howard is leading the way by having a concrete sidewalk laid in front of his residence.”
