Safety riding

Time for summer ATV fun and the state Department of Game and Fish is reminding riders about laws and safety rules.

• Wear a helmet and eye protection.

• For off-roading on public land, register all off-highway vehicles with the state or have a

non-resident permit.

• Stay on designated trails and never harass wildlife or livestock.

• Leave the area better than you found it.

The largest military conflict in North American history began this day in 1863 when Union and Confederate forces collided at Gettysburg.

The epic battle lasted three days and resulted in a retreat to Virginia by Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.
