Wike named new drug task force coordinator

Former police officer Heather Wike is the new Region V Drug Task Force Coordinator.

Wike will receive a salary of $40,000 under a contract subject to a performance review in six months, according to a press release received Monday from the Clovis Police Department.

Retired Clovis Police Chief Bill Carey held the position since Oct. 2006 and opted not to seek a new contract, vacating it May 31.

Wike was among three candidates seeking the job, including retired Deputy Police Chief Roger Bartosiewicz and retired Clovis Police Chief Ray Mondragon.

The coordinator is responsible for managing federal and state grant money used to purchase equipment, pay overtime and pay for confidential informant operations.

Equipment managed by the coordinator includes GPS tracking devices, cameras, video equipment and undercover vehicles.

The task force is a collaborative law enforcement group drawn from Curry, Roosevelt, Quay and De Baca counties and includes the sheriff’s office in those counties as well as police departments in Clovis, Portales, Tucumcari, Texico, Santa Rosa and Logan as well as seven villages that do not maintain full time police services.
