Floor finishes featured on show

Information on floor finishes, preparing 100-calorie snacks and making “upcycled” jewelry will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday.

Decorators and authors Edie Van Breems and Rhonda Eleish will show how to achieve a light floor finish by pickling or applying a lime wax, which is reminiscent of floors in Swedish designs. Their business is Eleish Van Breems Ltd. in Washington Depot, Conn.

Christine Palumbo of Honeysuckle White and Shady Brook Farms suggests that instead of buying pre-made 100-calorie snacks, we can make our own. She’ll display a variety of healthful snacks that are low in calories and delicious, too. She lives in Naperville, Ill.

Crafter Marisa Pawelko will show how to create “upcycled” jewelry out of common household items, old broken jewelry bits, trinkets and other objects. She’ll demonstrate her award-winning technique using a product you probably have never considered for crafts. She’s from Winfield, Ill.

Information on making pillows, the benefits of positive thinking and photo transfer will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Pat de Santis of Wrights will show how to quickly make pillows from common household linens. She’s from West Warren, Mass.

“P” is for positive, and motivational speaker Kysa Daniels practices what she preaches. Her company is Clarion Communications, and she speaks to a variety of groups — young and old — about the benefits of positive thinking. She’s from Conyers, Ga.

Margaret Sindelar, sewing instructor and author, will demonstrate how to do photo transfer projects as she makes baby blocks. She represents Martingale & Co. in Bothell, Wa.

100 Calorie Snacks

100-Calorie snacks are a huge trend right now. Rather than buying pre-made snacks, you can make your own for a lesser price. Try some of these suggestions.

• One tablespoon of peanut butter with half a cup of sliced apples provides 120 calories and healthful unsaturated fat

• Two whole grain cracker sandwiches (4 crackers) with cheese (1 cubic inch) and sliced turkey sausage (comparable gram weight to cheese) provides 115 calories.

• One cup of strawberries with a frozen low-fat, blueberry waffle with whole grains for 120 calories

• One cup of blanched asparagus spears (12 spears), 2 tablespoons Ranch dressing

• Two tablespoons hummus with 1 cup of sliced, peeled cucumbers is just over 100 calories

• A variety of protein choices mixed with fruits, vegetables and whole grains can make for a satisfying, filling snack that can keep your appetite in check.
