Board members decline to release drug task force coordinator's identity

Board members have selected a lone finalist as the Region V Drug Task Force coordinator, according to Clovis Police Chief Steve Sanders.

Sanders said Thursday a choice has been made but the position will not be offered until contract details are finalized. He declined to name the finalist.

An announcement should be made in a day or two, Sanders said.

The task force board interviewed three candidates Monday for the position recently vacated by former Police Chief Bill Carey.

The candidates for the position are retired Deputy Police Chief Roger Bartosiewicz, retired Clovis Police Chief Ray Mondragon and former Clovis Police Officer Heather Wike.

Carey opted not to seek a new contract and vacated the position May 31.

Carey had been in the position since October 2006 following his retirement from the police department.

The coordinator is responsible for managing federal and state grant money — the lifeblood of the task force — used to purchase equipment, pay overtime and fund confidential informant operations.
