Portales FFA Chapter is the home of a New Mexico State Officer for the first time in about 11 years. Kayla Hight, of the Portales Chapter, was elected District IV President at the New Mexico State FFA Convention, held in Las Cruces, May 31 - June 3, 2010.

District IV is compromised of FFA Chapters on the eastern side of the state. FFA members from Portales, Dora, Elida, Texico, Tatum, Ft. Sumner, House, Grady, Floyd and Clovis selected Miss Hight to be their President for 2010-2011. As District IV President, she will also be serving as State Vice President for the duration of the year. Kayla will be involved in various activities during her year as a State officer. She will be making visits to the Chapters in her district throughout the year, be a team leader at FFA Leadership Camp, attend Leadership Conference in Utah and many other activities and responsibilities.

Kayla has high hopes for their future. She intends to run for Sate FFA President next year and eventually run for National Office. New Mexico State University is her college of choice and she was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to NMSU when she took office. She is quick to thank her FFA Advisors, Bill Graham and Jerry Faver for all of their support.
