Day trip: Celebration features Buffalo Soldier re-enactment

What: Texas’ “Last Frontier Heritage Celebration.”

What’s it about? Morton, Texas, will host its seventh annual encampment of the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Living History Program at Cochran County Park in connection with Texas’ “Last Frontier Heritage Celebration” with a variety of events, such as, a downtown parade, gospel and patriotic singing groups, live county music and dancing.

When is it? Saturday, June 26 from 10 a.m. (CST) until midnight. Sunday, June 27 is the Sunday morning community worship service at 10:45 a.m. followed by a barbecue.

Where can I see it? Cochran County Park in Morton, Texas. It is 79 miles from the base or an 1 hour and 33 minutes of travel time. The park is at the corner of Garfield Avenue and Third Street.
