Reader submitted content: County Fair book available next week

The Roosevelt County Fair will be held Aug. 23-28. Now is the time to decide what to enter and finish up your projects. Fair books should be out next week. Stop by the county extension office to pick one up.

In the Home Arts division of the fair is Adult Crafts, Handiwork, Sewing, Fine Arts and Photography for those of you who like to express your creativity.

For those with a green thumb, we have the Flower Show and Horticulture exhibits and even classes for items like the largest squash or pumpkin.

If you love to spend more time in the kitchen, there are Baked Products and Sweet Delicacies including decorated cakes, cookies and cupcakes, along with the Fancy Cake Contest, President’s Candy Box and County Manager’s Cookie Jar. Don’t forget the Food Preservation Department. Anything canned since last year’s fair is eligible to enter.

Youth may enter in the Sub-Junior and Junior crafts departments and also special divisions in Baked Goods, Sweet Delicacies, Photography and Fine Arts. 4-H members can enter items in the 4-H Educational Exhibits and 4-H Open Departments.

Organizations wanting to have a display or educational booth located in the Home Arts Building can contact the county extension office at 356-4417 to reserve your booth.

Local businesses offer special prizes for the Home Arts Sweepstakes, Fancy Cake and 4-H Sweepstakes Award. Check these out in the Fair book.

The county fair also offers an opportunity for those of you who are interested in volunteering. One specific volunteer needed at this time is a photography superintendent. If you are interested in serving as photography department superintendent or volunteering in other areas, or for more information, please call Connie Moyers, Roosevelt County Extension home economist, at 356-4417.
