Curry County Manager Lance A. Pyle announced the appointment of Mr. Keith Norwood of Belen, New Mexico as Curry County’s Detention Center Administrator. Mr. Norwood has over twenty-five (25) years of experience with the New Mexico Corrections Department. Mr. Norwood retired from the Santa Fe Department in the position of Deputy Bureau Chief of Internal Audits, Standards, and Compliance. During his tenure he served as the Deputy Warden and as Warden of a minimum custody institution. Mr. Norwood was instrumental in obtaining American Correctional Association Accreditation in 2003 for the Roswell Correctional Center after twenty-one (21) years of non-accreditation.

Mr. Norwood has a Bachelors of Science Degree from New Mexico State University. Mr. Norwood stated on Wednesday, “I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. With community support, and team work, I am confident we will be able to operate a safe and secure detention facility.”

“I am very excited to have Mr. Norwood join the County Management team; his vast experience will serve as an asset to residents of Curry County and will advance the Detention Center to new levels of professionalism, security, sanitation and safety,” said Pyle. Pyle noted that it is going to be a challenge, but Mr. Norwood has the qualifications and experience to get the job done. Mr. Norwood will start on Monday, June 7, 2010.

The County will be hosting a “meet and greet” for the residents of Curry County to get acquainted with Mr. Norwood on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Curry County Commission Room.
