Santa Rosa's George Dodge Jr. grabs District 63 nomination

Santa Rosa’s George Dodge Jr. grabbed the Democratic nomination for State Representative, District 63 from Clovis’ Jose Griego with a wide lead.

Claiming 78 percent of the votes in 96 percent of the precincts, retired educator Dodge will go on to face Republican Melinda Russ from Fort Sumner in the November general election.

Russ ran unopposed.

Dodge’s win held true in the eastern part of the state, with Curry County Democrats giving him 66.01 percent.

He also captured 62.1 percent of the votes in Roosevelt County and 78.1 percent in De Baca County.

An owner of two businesses in Santa Rosa, having the experience of 27 years in the educational system as a school bus contractor, coach, teacher and high school principal, Dodge is currently serving as vice president of Farmers Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees based in Clovis.

Dodge, 52, a native of Santa Rosa is a graduate of Santa Rosa High and New Mexico Highlands University.
