State Rep. Anna Crook, R-Clovis, won Tuesday’s primary election in a landslide.
Crook took 1,954 votes while her competition, Wade Lopez, got 300 votes.
The win essentially means Crook is re-elected to the Legislature because she has no Democrat opponent in the November general election.
Lopez thanked voters and family for supporting him.
“I’ll be back in two years to take another run at it,” he said.
Crook said she’s glad it’s over.
“I think I represent the best constituents in the state of New Mexico. You can’t beat Clovis people,” Crook said.
Crook, who has held the seat for 16 years, said she plans to focus on the state’s budget issues.
“I’m hoping that we can get back to a balanced budget and don’t have to tax our citizens,” the 75-year-old lawmaker said. “We need to take a conservative approach. We’re all being affected by the economy.
“I hope that we can come up from being near the bottom with our educational system,” Crook said.
Crook, born in Crossroads, said she doesn’t know if she’ll be running again in two years.
“I kinda take it one day at a time,” she said. “I might say I’m doing something but the good Lord will say he wants me to do something else.”
