Press Release: Clovis woman sentenced for robbery and battery

Clovis, NM ~ Matthew Chandler, Ninth Judicial District Attorney, announced today that Ebony Bunton, age 20, a former Clovis basketball standout, was convicted of one count of Armed Robbery and one count of Aggravated Battery and ordered to serve five (5) years in the Department of Corrections.

The charges stem from September 7, 2009 when officers responded to find two victims that had been beaten with a skateboard and other items, tied-up and had their vehicle stolen from them. Bunton was later located in Amarillo, Texas with the stolen vehicle. Bunton was transported back to Clovis, and confessed to her role in the crimes.

The Honorable Judge Stephen Quinn presided over the sentencing and Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Cross prosecuted the case for the State of New Mexico. Once Bunton finishes her prison term, she will be placed on an intensively supervised probation period of an additional four (4) years. During the term of probation, Bunton will be screened for drug abuse and undergo anger management. Bunton will have no contact with the victims, shall make all applicable restitution and have no contact with the co-defendants.
