Shoutout: Clovis, Portales students recieve piano honors

The National Piano Guild Auditions for Clovis and Portales piano students were held in the studios of Doris Tankersley of Clovis and Eunice Schumpert of Portales on May 5 and May 6.

Over 45 piano students were adjudicated by Joan Hines, professor of piano at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs. All students received superior ratings and numerous students received superior plus, which is “A Top Talent Award.”

Each student received a report card, a certificate and an award medal depending on the number of piano pieces performed including scales, cadences an other musicianship requirements.

Hines, a long time member of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico has judged for the National Piano Guild Auditions with headquarters in Austin, Texas for over 25 years. Hines will be judging for Guild Houston for three weeks. Then following, a scheduled trip to China to present Master Piano Classes at the College of Hong Kong and lectures in various areas of China.

Along with her teaching at the college, Hines maintains a private studio with a reputation of winners in piano performance as well as music theory.

Hines is an experienced director of choirs, and has served as organist and/or pianist for the St. Helanas Catholic Church in Hobbs, and is at present serving as pianist for the St. Thomas Acquinas Catholic Church in Lovington.

The divine art of music is indeed a growing and fulfilling experience for both the young and for the more mature.
