The group Students Concerned About Tobacco at the Arts Academy at Bella Vista is hosting a Big Tobacco “Beat Down” pinata party 1 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.
The party is the last of a series of anti-tobacco events held across Curry County, the release said.
The students will be beating open a large, Joe Camel-shaped pinata. The activity is intended to bring attention to a loophole in the law that prohibits tobacco manufacturers from adding “youth-friendly” additives such as fruit and candy flavors in cigarettes. The loophole allows such additives to be added to cigars, snus and other smokeless tobacco products.
