Press release: ENMU trio earns weekly LSC track and field honors

RICHARDSON, TEXAS — Daniel Draper (Jr., T, Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty HS), Nicole Reid (So., D, Pueblo, Colo./East HS) and Kassie Daugherty (So., T, Bridgeport, Texas/Bridgeport HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University track and field teams earned Lone Star Conference weekly honors for their performance at the Arizona State University Sun Devil Open, last Saturday.

The trio joins Tarleton State’s Jaden McNeil, who was selected as the LSC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.

With their selections, the trio joins Bill Squire (So., Hagerman, Texas/Hagerman HS), who was selected as the LSC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on March 18, for his performance at the Tarleton Relays to open the season.

Draper was chosen as the LSC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after registering a standout performance for the Hounds in multiple events. He placed second in the javelin throw with a toss of 199’-04”, to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Draper’s throw currently ranks third in the Lone Star Conference.

Reid, selected LSC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, placed 10th in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:25.24, which is tenth in the Lone Star Conference. Her time of 11:47.86 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase is the second best in the LSC this season and earned her second place at ASU.

Both times set new ENMU records.

Daugherty, the LSC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, placed seventh in the shot put, with a throw of 34’-6.25. She also earned fifth in the discus, with a toss of 123’.

Draper, Reid, Daugherty and the Eastern New Mexico University track and field teams will head to Abilene, Texas, this weekend, to participate in the Abilene Christian/Oliver Jackson Open.
