Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

ENMU hosting 5th annual mud volleyball tournament

The fifth annual Mud Volleyball tournament is 10 a.m. Saturday at Eastern New Mexico University on the lawn behind Lincoln Hall. Changes this year include the addition of scholarships, a concession stand and music.

“There will be five courts, double elimination and it is open to college students and people from the Portales community,” said Noelle Bartl, executive director of the ENMU Foundation. “The team registration fees, all of it goes towards scholarships.”

The tournament is a joint venture by the Associated Students of ENMU and ENMU Foundation. So far, $3,070 has been collected to be given away for the scholarships. Mud Volleyball Director Brian Campbell said they plan to give away four or five scholarships, but he doesn’t know for sure until they get the final count from the registration fees.

Campbell said the tournament has been going on since he has been at Eastern.

ASENMU and ENMU Foundation wanted to do something different for the fifth year with adding an extra pit, having a concession stand and live music, Campbell said.

Campbell said there are a record 33 teams applying to compete.

Campbell said they will be playing until it gets dark and continue playing on Sunday if they don’t finish.
