Cuff bracelet craft featured on show


Information on recipes for picky eaters, making cuff bracelets and hand applique techniques will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon.

Mary Lee Chin is a registered dietitian and nutrition expert for the California Raisin Marketing Board in Sacramento, Calif., and she knows that some parents have difficulty getting their child to eat nutritious food. She’s going to share some ideas and recipes that may help solve the problem.

Michele Muska is with Simplicity Creative Group, and she’s going to show how to use vinyl to make cuff bracelets and show different ways to embellish them. To cut the strips, she’ll demonstrate a new rotary cutting machine from Simplicity. She’s from Antioch, Tenn.

If you like the look of hand applique, but don’t like doing hand work, Patsy Shields will show how the right stabilizer produces the best results, and some are easier to work with than others. She represents RNK Distributing and Floriani Stabilizers and lives in Sellersburg, Ind.

Information on making a wall shelf, cooking with peanuts and using a Bloom Tool to make yarn daisies will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Furniture refinishing expert Bruce Johnson will show how to liven up any room of the house with a wall shelf that is attractive and provides display space as well. Johnson represents Minwax in Upper Saddle River, N.J.

Gayle Stephenson will talk about how to start your day with a healthy breakfast — one that includes peanuts. Stephenson represents the Texas Peanut Producers Board in Lubbock, Texas, and she’ll talk about nutrition, health studies and dietary concerns.

According to Pat de Santis, “what’s old is new again.” She will show how to use a Bloom Tool to make yarn daisies the old way … then how to make the same items with new yarns on the market. She is the vice president of corporate marketing with Wrights in West Warren, Mass.

No-mess banana nut pancakes with cinnamon-raisin syrup Pancakes

• 1 large ripe banana

• 2 cups whole grain pancake mix

• 1 cup fat-free milk

• 1/2 cup California raisins

• 1/4 cup maple syrup

• 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Maple raisin topping

• 1/2 cup maple syrup

• 1/4 cup California raisins

• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Place banana in large resealable plastic bag and squeeze to mash. Add remaining pancake ingredients; seal and knead to mix well. Snip corner off bag and squeeze batter onto a large hot griddle coated with nonstick cooking spray to make circles or squiggles or happy faces, as desired. Cook over medium heat for about 3 minutes on each side, until lightly browned. For topping, combine ingredients in small bowl and microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds until warm.

Serves 6.
