Their view: Campos shares ideas for job growth

Jose Campos, D-Santa Rosa, is a candidate for New Mexico’s lieutenant governor’s post.

Here’s what he has to say about “growing the economy” on his Web site: http://joecampos.org/

“It’s about jobs, jobs, jobs.”

Among his ideas for accomplishing jobs:

• Promote the development and expansion of renewable energy to provide better paying high tech jobs.

• Protect our national scientific labs and military bases.

• Encourage partnerships between higher education, business, and our national scientific labs to develop high tech industries.

• Partner with towns and cities to develop economic strategies suited to their individual needs and resources.

• Create incentives to protect traditional industries and recruit new companies to New Mexico.

And here’s what he has to say about education:

“In order for our education system to serve us well, we must provide the best opportunities, resources and

environments in which to learn.”

His ideas for improving education include:

• K-3 programs that emphasize reading, writing and mathematics.

• Support bilingual education and immersion programs.

• Identify, implement and recognize best practices and innovation in education.

• Promote vocational training and adult basic education.

• Develop job training programs targeted to high tech, health care and renewable energy careers.

• Increase educational opportunities for combat veterans and displaced workers.
