Their view: Easter egg hunts big disappointment
Portales’ Lindsey Valdez was disappointed with Portales’ Easter egg hunts last Saturday. Here’s what she had to say in a letter to the editor:
“I arrived at Memorial Park 20 minutes early for the egg hunt with my
17-month-old only to discover the hunt was over. There were many children walking away with baskets that had eggs toppling over. I walked around trying to find someone in charge and to figure out what was going on, but all I found were upset parents.
“I got in my car determined to make my daughter’s first Easter egg hunt a success and headed across town to Lindsey Park. I was at Lindsey Park five minutes prior to hunt time. Lindsey Park had no supervision either, and everyone was walking away with all of the goodies.
“I heard an interview on KSEL with a city official talking about how the event was a success, but I feel an obligation to speak up for all of the parents who had to deal with children who looked forward to the event all week long and were let down so hard.
“I don’t ever plan on attending an Easter egg hunt put on at any of the parks in Portales again but I hope this can be fixed for future hunts.”
