EPCOG sharing grant money

The Eastern Plains Council of Government is one of seven New Mexico groups that will share in more than $2 million in economic development grant money, according to a release from U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M.

EPCOG is a consortium of seven counties in eastern New Mexico and helps local governments with infrastructure planning and economic development. It includes Union, Harding, Quay, Guadalupe, De Baca, Curry, and Roosevelt counties.

The council received $180,000 of the grant money. Nearly half, $1 million of the $2.08 million, went to Jal for renovate the city-owned Burke Industrial Complex building to expand Louisiana Energy Services (LES) to meet increased demand for uranium enrichment in the United States.

The money is available through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration and will be used to establish an economic development planning framework that supports private capital investment and job creation.
