School events not to be missed

I don’t know about you, but I am the one who hears about the great sale that took place last week, or the outstanding event that happened the night before. Yes, it seems that I don’t hear about these fun and exciting events until it is too late. And, it dawns on me I might not be the only person this happens to. So, I thought I would tell you about some exciting events happening in our schools this month.

If you love pizza like my family does, then you will want to order from Domino’s on April 8 as it will not only make you a hero in your household, but support Zia Elementary School.

Beginning noon Saturday, there will be a Stay Teen Parent-Youth Summit at Clovis Community College. It is geared towards seventh- through ninth-grade students and their parents. Guest speaker Dallas Jessup will truly inspire you and your students. For information, call United Way of Eastern New Mexico at 211.

On Tuesday, you could take the family out to eat at McDonald's on 14th and Mitchell as it is Yucca night. More than 30 teachers and staff have volunteered to work from 6-8 p.m.

We have several musical performances coming up, and the first one will be by the Freshman Campus Band at Marshall on April 15 at 7 p.m. Then, on April 20 the Freshman Campus and the High School Choirs will perform at Marshall, also at 7 p.m. Marshall students are gearing up for April 23 as they present the opera, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

Do you remember the Family Fun Math Night? I was a little intimidated to attend but then had a wonderful time. Parkview Elementary will be having a Family Math Night on April 15 and Yucca will be having one on April 29. If your students attend Parkview or will attend Yucca in the fall, you will not want to miss out on this.

Another event Parkview Elementary is having is Doughnuts for Dads on April 16 from 7-8 a.m. This is an event where students get to have a little fun with dads at school.

And, there’s one more thing I want you to know about but it isn’t until May 2-10, and that is Educators Appreciation Week. Start thinking now about how you can tell that special educator “thank you”… it will mean a lot to them.
