Physical plant employee loses home, possessions

Robert Ortega, a member of the physical plant crew at Eastern New Mexico University, lost everything when his home burned down March 30.

ENMU is asking all fellow employees and the public to consider making a contribution to assist him.

Financial contributions can be dropped off at Dorothy Bull’s office in the ENMU Business Office in the Administration Building or at Daren Fike’s office at the ENMU Physical Plant.

Wednesday morning classes canceled

Wednesday is Assessment Day, and all classes are canceled from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Any courses with a beginning time prior to 1 p.m. will not meet.

Students who are required to take the assessment test have received notification by mail and/or e-mail. Students who have not received notification and are in doubt should contact Belinda Hilliard at 562-2315.

ENMU sorority holding 5K

The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at Eastern New Mexico University is holding its third annual 5K run/walk to help support breast cancer research at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Late registration begins at 8 a.m. that day in the lobby of Greyhound Arena in Portales. The cost is $20 for non-students and $15 for students.

Medals will be awarded for first, second and third.

All pre-registered participants will receive a shirt and race pack, which includes a water bottle and a pamphlet about breast cancer. Late registrants will also receive the packs if they are still available.

Proceeds go to breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
