Their view: Reform allows too much government control

Penny Bailey is president of the High Plains Patriots, a political organization whose Web site trumpets limited government and individual rights.

Here’s what she has to say in response to U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan Jr., D-N.M., and others who support the health care bill:

“I fought and will continue to fight against this bill and any move to take America from the Land of Opportunity to the Land of the Dependent.

“First, if a piece of legislation is good for all of America, then backdoor deals and arm twisting would not be necessary. It is appalling the amount of dirty politics that went into getting this bill passed when the majority of Americans were (and still are) against it.

“When elected officials do not listen to their constituents, that is not representative government, and those political seats need to be vacated.

“Secondly, I have lived in countries with socialized medicine. No one I met cared for their system. Everyone had to pay into a system that rations care and if you get really sick then you have to use your own money because the government will not pay for extensive care.

“Third, the only greed is for those who want something for nothing. But for those who are thinkers, they realize that is impossible.

“This bill was not so much about health care but about more government control. They will now control insurance and school loans. This administration is all about taking control of as much money as it can and controlling our lives.

“Besides, if this was such a great bill, why did it exempt the very people pushing this on the rest of America?

“If you don’t agree with anything I’ve said here, then you need to read the bill for yourself. You’ll see Lujan Jr. and all the others that voted for Obamacare did not do America any favors.”
